Biopsy
Biopsy is a procedure to remove tissue for microscopic examination to diagnose various conditions like cancer, infections, inflammatory diseases, and other abnormalities. Different types include needle, surgical, and endoscopic biopsies. Results guide treatment decisions and provide valuable information about diseases. Biopsies are generally safe with minimal risks and play a crucial role in accurate diagnosis and management.
FNAC
The term ‘FNAC’ stands for Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology. FNAC is a minimally invasive procedure to obtain tissue samples for microscopic examination. A thin needle is used to collect cells from lumps or masses for analysis. It is commonly used to diagnose conditions like breast lumps, thyroid nodules, and enlarged lymph nodes. It is quick, safe, and typically done in an outpatient setting. It is crucial for early detection and diagnosis of medical conditions.
Bone Marrow Aspiration & Biopsy
Bone marrow procedures are used to evaluate the health of bone marrow, which is the spongy tissue inside bones which produce blood cells. They involve extraction of a small bone marrow sample for examination under a microscope to diagnose various conditions such as leukemia, lymphoma and other blood disorders. During an aspiration, a needle is used to withdraw a liquid bone marrow sample, while biopsy involves removing a small piece of bone and marrow for further analysis. These procedures are generally safe with minimal risks.
Image-guided procedures
Ultrasound-guided procedures are minimally invasive techniques that use real-time ultrasound imaging to guide medical interventions with precision and accuracy. By visualizing internal structures in real-time, healthcare providers can safely and effectively perform procedures such as biopsies, injections, and fluid drainage. This technology allows for improved patient outcomes, reduced risk of complications, and faster recovery times.
Cytology
A cytology is study of cells to diagnose diseases and monitor health conditions. Through cells obtained from various body fluids or tissues, it helps detect abnormalities, such as cancerous cells or infections. This procedure is non-invasive with minimal risk. There are wide range of cytology procedures including PAP, FNAC and others.
PAP
is a method of cervical screening used to detect potentially precancerous and cancerous processes in the cervix (opening of the uterus or womb). Abnormal findings are often followed up by more sensitive diagnostic procedures and, if warranted, interventions that aim to prevent progression to cervical cancer.
Peripheral Morphology
A blood (peripheral) smear, for morphology, is an important test for evaluating blood-related problems, such as those in red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets. It has a wide range of uses, including distinguishing viral infections from bacterial infections, evaluating anemia, looking for causes of jaundice, and even diagnosing malaria.
IHC
Immunohistochemistry is a powerful diagnostic tool that uses antibodies to detect specific proteins in tissue samples. This technique helps in identifying diseases, understanding their mechanisms, and guiding personalized treatment plans. It plays a crucial role in pathology, cancer diagnosis, and research, providing valuable insights into the molecular makeup of tissues and contributing to improved patient care.
Special Stains
Special stains are a type of laboratory technique used to highlight specific structures or substances within tissues that may not be easily seen with routine staining methods. These stains are often used to aid in the diagnosis of various medical conditions, providing valuable information to healthcare providers. By enhancing the visibility of certain features, special stains help pathologists make accurate and precise diagnoses, ultimately leading to better patient care.
Slide Consultation
Slide consultation is a service that allows healthcare providers to seek expert opinions on diagnostic slides or images from pathologists. This collaborative approach enables accurate and timely diagnoses, especially for complex cases, by leveraging the expertise of specialists in different fields. It promotes better patient outcomes by ensuring that healthcare providers have access to the most up-to-date knowledge and resources to make informed decisions about patient care.
